In a statement on behalf of the Mallow Relief Road Alliance, Mr McDonnell and Mallow Chamber president Joyce A Good Hammond said interim measures are needed to address congestion in the town.

Uisce Éireann crews are working on what the utility has described as a ‘major burst’ on the raw water main which supplies the Mallow Water Treatment Plant at Ballyellis.

Joseph Butler (42) appeared before Midleton District Court on Thursday charged with the murder of Ms Canty (31) at the Belfry, Bridewell Lane, Mallow, Co Cork.

The woman, named as 31-year-old Paula Canty, was found dead at a home in Mallow on Friday.

The man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on Tuesday afternoon and is being held at a garda station in North Cork under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
