Uisce Éireann crews repair Mallow water burst but normal supply may take time to resume fully

Uisce Éireann workers have completed repair works on the water main supplying Mallow Water Treatment Plant but normal supplies may take time to resume.

Repair work has been completed by Uisce Éireann crews who had been working to fix what was described as a ‘major burst’ on a water main in Mallow but water supplies may be disrupted for some time yet.

In a statement from Uisce Éireann issued on Saturday afternoon, a spokesperson confirmed raw water was flowing again through the repaired water main supplying the Mallow Water Treatment Plant at Ballyellis and this would allow full production to resume.

“As the reservoir and network have been depleted it will take some time to refill over the course of this evening and overnight,” the spokesperson said. “Customers on the south side of Mallow town may experience low water pressure while the network recharges.

According to the Operations Engineer with Uisce Éireann, Denis Hayes, while the repairs had been completed, recharging of the reservoir and network would continue this evening and overnight.

“Normal supply for some customers may not return until late tonight or tomorrow morning, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

“I would like to thank the community in Mallow for their continued patience and urge everyone to conserve water to protect supply as it returns.” Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from the company for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
