A man arrested by gardaí in connection to the death of Paula Canty in Mallow has been charged and is due to appear in court this morning.

The man, aged in his 40s, who was arrested in relation to the garda investigation into Ms Canty’s death, is expected to appear before a sitting of Midleton District Court at 11am this morning.

Ms Canty, a 31-year-old mother of two originally from Kinsale, was found in an unresponsive state by emergency services at her flat on Bridewell Lane close to the centre of the North Cork town on Friday.

Gardaí launched a murder investigation into her death following a post-mortem examination by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster.

A man was subsequently arrested on Tuesday afternoon and detained for questioning under the Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

Gardaí said this morning their investigations are “ongoing”.
