This comes amid claims that the lack of progress on the facility is contributing to increasingly high trolley figures in Cork University Hospital.

The project will now advance through the final statutory phases, including the formal grant of permission, detailed design finalisation, and legal documentation.

The HSE said they are working on a proposal for a new 75-bed acute mental health service on the grounds of St Stephen’s Hospital in Glanmire.

The development be on the former site of the John Barleycorn Hotel which was destroyed by fire in 2006 and has remained unused since.

A HSE representative confirmed that the developers behind the project, Infrastructure Investment Fund ICAV Valley Healthcare Fund, have lodged an appeal against the council’s decision.

The woman is due to appear before Cork District Court. 

A document submitted with the application said the scheme, if green-lit, would “provide a pleasant environment for individuals and families to live and will have good links to the existing neighbourhood centre of Glanmire”.

The clean-up operation is underway in towns and villages following this week's flooding. 

The Glanmire resident described how the flood waters breached the barriers outside and started coming up through the toilets. 

The club’s pitch, gym, spinning room, office, bar cellar and cold room were all destroyed in the flooding.

Glanmire was significantly impacted by today's floods with Sarsfield's grounds feeling the full effects of Storm Babet.
