A revised planning application for a primary care centre in Glanmire is due to be submitted this week.

In response to a parliamentary question submitted by Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North Central Pádraig O’Sullivan, the HSE confirmed that HSE Capital and Estates met with the developer who confirmed that a revised planning application for the facility is due to be submitted this week.

Acting Head of Service of Primary Care at Cork Kerry Community Healthcare Mari O’Donovan said the establishment of robust primary care centre infrastructure in specific geographical areas is “crucial for providing integrated care”.

“These centres serve as the cornerstone of the healthcare system, facilitating seamless coordination among various healthcare services,” she said.

“By situating primary care centres within the communities they serve, we can ensure that patients have convenient access to comprehensive care, encompassing preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services.

“Moreover, well-equipped primary care centres can alleviate the burden on tertiary healthcare facilities by addressing health issues at an early stage,” she added.

Ms O’Donovan said that HSE Capital and Estates will continue to follow up pending and post planning approval with respect to the next steps for progression.

“We have waited a few years now to see this project progress to this stage.

“Now that the site has been identified we can finally look forward to the planning application progressing and Glanmire will finally get its much-needed primary care centre,” said Mr O’Sullivan.

“A number of local GPs have been in contact over the last year trying to get this project progressed as there is a clear need for additional capacity for GP services in Glanmire.”
