Mary served in a range of business and civic roles, supporting a number of charity initiatives.

Funeral arrangements for Mary Hopkins, the founder of Hopkins Communications, who passed away unexpectedly on Monday after a short illness, have been announced.

A native of Limerick, Ms Hopkins founded the Cork communications and PR firm in 1990 and grew it over the next 30 years into one of the country’s top agencies.

She served in a range of business and civic roles, supporting a number of charity initiatives.

A strong advocate of women in business, Ms Hopkins served in a number of roles with Cork Chamber, including the board of directors and chairing the members' services committee.

The Lord Mayor, Fergal Dennehy, led tributes to Ms Hopkins, saying she was a much-loved and highly respected member of Cork’s community and business sector.

“Throughout her life, she gave generously of her time, her energy, and her spirit to the people and the city she cared for so deeply,” Mr Dennehy said.

“She touched many lives through her kindness, her compassion, and her unwavering commitment to helping others.

“I know I speak for the entire city when I say that her loss will be profoundly felt.” 

Ms Hopkins is survived by her husband Dave, her twin sister Norma, children Mark and Judy, grandchildren Jack and Anna, and her daughter-in-law Eorann.

She will be deeply missed by her sisters Anne, Elaine and Bridget, her extended family, and wide circle of friends.

Reposing at Barry Bros Funeral Home, Hazelwood, Glanmire from 5pm to 6pm on Thursday, September 11.

Requiem Mass at 11am on Friday, September 12, in St Joseph’s Church, Springhill, Glanmire, Cork which can be viewed on mycondolences.ie.

Funeral afterwards to St Joseph’s Cemetery, Little Island.
