Gardaí have charged a woman in connection with a road traffic collision in Cork which resulted in the death of mother-of-two Sheila Dunne.

Ms Dunne died two days after the collision at Sarsfield Court in Glanmire in February of this year.

Gardaí had established an incident room following the collision and made a number of appeals for witnesses.

Today they confirmed that a woman in her 40s is now facing charges in connection with the incident.

"As part of the investigation into the fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Sarsfield Court, Glanmire, Co. Cork, 11th February 2024, Gardaí have charged a woman aged in her 40s," a spokesperson told The Echo.

The woman is due to appear before Cork District Court at a later date.

Ms Dunne and a second woman were travelling in an SUV which appeared to have rolled over and was found on its side following the crash at Sarsfield Court.

Three fire crew members assisted with efforts to resuscitate Ms Dunne as she was transported to Cork University Hospital, where she died two days later.

The other woman in the car also received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Ms Dunne was in her 50s and worked as a special needs assistant in Watergrasshill National School. Ms Dunne’s late husband, well-known local DJ Ted Dunne, died three years ago.
