Stacey McCabe says that her brother Shea, aged 29, ended up in the river near the Brian Boru bridge in Cork in the early hours of December 18 after a “freak accident”. From that time, and even during Christmas Day, a multi-agency search took place in a bid to find Shea.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced deceased and his body remains at the scene.

The victim appears to have been the sole occupant of the plane, according to An Garda Síochána.

As a result of the incident, a man in his 30s was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Upon their arrival at the estate members of the fire brigade were informed by neighbours that a man was still inside the property.

The attack is believed to have occurred around 7.30pm on Friday evening.

The body of the deceased was removed from the scene and brought to University Hospital Kerry in Tralee where a postmortem examination is to be carried out in the coming days.

The woman remains in a serious condition at Tallaght University Hospital while the second driver, a male aged in his 20s, was not injured.

Gardaí and emergency services are attending the site, and the road remains closed at present.

The free service, launched by Dublin City Council, will operate on Camden Street every Friday and Saturday night from 10pm to 3am.
