A male pedestrian in his 80s has been seriously injured after being hit by a car driven by a teenager.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the serious road traffic collision on Main Street, Ballymahon, Co Longford, on Monday evening at approximately 5:15pm.

The pedestrian, a man aged in his 80s, was removed from the scene to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, for treatment of injuries believed to be serious.

Gardaí said the driver of the car, an adult male, aged in his late teens, was uninjured.

The road is currently closed and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators will conduct a technical examination of the scene on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were in the area between 5pm and 5:30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
