A man in his 40s has died following a collision between a car and a lorry in Shercock, Co Cavan, on Monday.

Shortly before 7:30am, emergency services and gardaí responded to a collision involving a car and a lorry on the R192 at Corcloughan, Shercock.

The driver of the car, the man in his 40s, was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

The lorry driver, a male in his 60s, was taken to hospital for assessment.

The road remains closed pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions remain in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to come forward. Road users who were in the area at the time and may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to gardaí.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
