Now, at Cork District Court, the culprit has been sentenced to a total of 13 months in prison arising out of this and another incident.

The transfers and promotions, which came into effect yesterday, will improve community engagement.

Gardaí seized more than €750,000 worth of suspected cocaine and cannabis were seized along with €40,000 in cash during raids in the Douglas area. 

Over 4,600 drivers were penalised for speeding offences, including a driver in Limerick driving at 207km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Joice Thomas, aged 34, from Kambammettu, Kerala in India lived in Ballynoe in Co Cork with his wife Ruby Kuriakose, their two year old daughter and infant son.

The sole occupant of the car, a man aged in his 30s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Cork City garda division looks set to be allocated 36 new garda recruits in this morning’s attestation ceremony at the Garda Training College in Templemore, Mr Martin said.

In Cork, the Baile Bhúirne (Ballyvourney) and Béal Átha an Ghaorthaidh (Ballingeary) stations both have two gardaí, and all four of them have the ability to work through Irish.

Since the turn of the decade garda numbers have dropped by 9% in the city and 3% in the county.

The station will also serve as the Garda divisional headquarters for Cork county, replacing the divisional hub in Bandon

The collision occurred shortly after 11.20pm last night when the vehicle left the road and collided with a ditch. 

The man in his 50s is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

Gardaí said a  male in his 40s was taken to the cork University Hospital for treatment of 'serious injuries'. 

In Cork city, there were 95 complaints made relating to 86 gardaí, while in Cork county, 97 complaints were made about 63 gardaí, meaning several gardaí were the subject of more than one complaint.
