A motorcyclist has died following a collision outside Glengarriff in West Cork.

The man aged in his 30’s, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A collision occurred between the motorcyclist and a car at the tunnel outside Glengarriff at approximately 2.55 pm on Thursday.

Gardaí and emergency services were at the scene on the N71 at the Caha Pass, Co Cork, on Thursday.

The road was closed for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, which has been completed and has now reopened.

The deceased man's body has been removed to the mortuary at Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

No other injuries were reported at the time.

Thursday’s fatality in West Cork brings the total number of deaths on Irish roads this year to 125. 106 people were killed on the roads up to August 20, 2025.

Thursday's death is the second recent motorcyclist fatality in the area.

On August 5, a motorcyclist died following a road traffic collision at approximately 2.30 pm on the R587 near Gloun North, Dunmanway.

The man, who was aged in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses following Thursday's fatal crash.

Road users who were travelling on the N71 between Glengarriff and Kenmare at Caha Pass, Co Cork on Thursday  between 2.15pm and 2.45pm and who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
