Two men have been arrested and are due to appear in court this morning following the seizure of drugs and cash during searches in Cork and Dublin.

As part of Operation Tara gardaí from the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit arrested two men and seized suspected €700,000 of suspected cocaine, €60,000 cannabis, and more than €40,000 in cash during searches conducted in the Douglas area on Tuesday, December 30.

The men, aged in their 30s and 40s, were detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996, at garda stations in the Cork area.

During following up searches conducted by the Garda National Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau (GNDOCB) in the Dublin 14 area on New Year's Eve, a further 0.5kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €9,000, and €4,000 in cash were seized.

The seized drugs are subject to analysis by Forensic Science Ireland.

Both of the arrested men have since been charged, and are expected to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court this morning at approximately 10.30am.

A garda spokesperson said investigations are ongoing.
