Superintendent transfers in Cork city to improve garda community engagement

Following the appointment of Chief Superintendent Colm Noonan as head of policing in the Cork City Garda Division last month, a number of superintendent transfers have been announced in the division.

The transfers and promotions, which came into effect yesterday, will improve community engagement.

Superintendent Declan O’Sullivan has transferred to Anglesea St Garda Station as regional detective superintendent for the southern region.

He was previously in Mayfield in charge of community engagement in Cork City North.

Superintendent Gary McPolin has transferred to Togher Garda Station, with responsibility for community engagement in Cork City South. He was previously in charge of community engagement in Mallow as part of the Cork County Garda Division.

Superintendent Conor Dillon has been transferred to Mayfield Garda Station, with responsibility for community engagement in Cork City North, having previously served in Tipperary, where he was in charge of community engagement.

In the county division, Superintendent Niall O’Connell has been transferred to Mallow Garda Station, with responsibility for community engagement in Cork County North-West, having previously been responsible for community engagement in Tipperary South.

Former inspector James Hallahan has been promoted to superintendent, and has transferred from Cork city to Clonmel Garda Station, where he has responsibility for community engagement in Tipperary South.

The moves are part of the garda operating model to implement the recommendations of the A Policing Service for the Future report from the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland.

The model provided a wider range of policing services in local areas.

The model restructured at national, regional, and local levels to provide a greater focus on community policing.
