Family of teenage brothers assaulted in Mahon appeal for witnesses to come forward 

The family of two teenage brothers assaulted by two other males in a suburb of Cork city are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Two boys, aged 17 and 15, were attacked on Ballinure Avenue in Mahon at around 9.30pm on Friday. 

The 17-year-old spent two nights in hospital for treatment, according to his aunt.

She said on Monday evening that the injuries included concussion, a broken nose, two black eyes, and body and facial injuries “that no teenagers should receive from walking from a shop to your home".

The aunt told this publication: “Both boys were injured. The 17-year-old required hospital treatment as he took the brunt of the attack. The 15-year-old did not require hospitalisation.”

She said that she was “utterly shocked and devastated” about the incident. She added:

"Those boys will never be the same again.

"Physical injuries will heal but emotional and psychological won't.” 

She appealed to people in the Mahon area to “come forward as witnesses and please make sure the perpetrators are held responsible”.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána said: “Gardaí at Blackrock are investigating an assault on a 17-year-old male that occurred on Ballinure Avenue, Mahon, shortly after 9.30pm on Friday, July 31, 2026.

"It is understood that the victim was approached and assaulted by two male youths during the incident.

"He was subsequently brought to hospital for medical treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening."
