Jack Lynch Tunnel fully reopened after earlier collision

The Jack Lynch Tunnel has been fully reopened after a two-car collision earlier, while four homes on the city’s northside were evacuated after significant smoke damage was caused by a housefire in one of the properties.
A two-car collision occurred in the eastern lane of the road approaching the northbound bore on the Dunkettle side at approximately 2pm.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene, and members of Cork Fire Brigade extricated a passenger from one of the vehicles.
That person was treated at the scene by National Ambulance Service personnel, before being taken to Cork University Hospital.
The road remained closed for a period of time, but traffic was reported as flowing freely after the two vehicles were removed.
Separately, fire service personnel responded to a house fire on Kilmore Rd, in Knocknaheeny, which resulted in significant smoke damage to four homes.
Victor Shine, second officer with Cork City Fire Brigade, said the fire had been contained, and extinguished quickly.
“A number of pets were evacuated from one of the houses,” he said.
Mr Shine said the fire had only caused minor damage, but the smoke damage had been significant.
Nobody was injured during the incident.
Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene of a fire involving multiple homes on Cork city’s northside, while emergency crews are also responding to a multi-vehicle collision at the Jack Lynch Tunnel.
It is understood that members of Cork City Fire Brigade are tackling a blaze affecting at least two adjoining houses on Kilmore Road in Knocknaheeny.
It is not known at this time whether anyone has been injured in the fire.
Meanwhile, gardaí and members of the National Ambulance Service are also at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision at the Jack Lynch Tunnel.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told The Echo motorists are advised to take alternative routes as the road remained closed following the collision.
