New short film festival for Cork next month

The inaugural Gearr Short Film Festival will take place in Cork city next month.

The four-day event, featuring premieres of short films from creators across Ireland, will take place at the Arc Cinema from October 8.

As part of the festival, 10 places have been made available at a collaborative film-making workshop, delivered by an experienced team from Off-Courts Festival at the Blacknight Festival Centre.

The Irish shorts section will be split into three categories, ‘Common Ground’, ‘Shadow Lands’, and ‘From Ireland’s North’, each exploring different aspects of Irish society.

The world shorts section will also be delivered in three parts, with category titles ‘Love in Low Tide’, ‘The Strange Places We Carry’, and ‘Held Breath’ featuring submissions from France, New Zealand, Canada, and beyond.

Meanwhile, Made in Cork will comprise two categories displaying local talent, titled ‘Perspectives’ and ‘Pastiche’, with a collection of short films that explore poetry, memory, dark comedy, and more.

There will be four festival awards, decided by an industry jury at the end of the festival.
