A red weather warning was put in place for the county from 3am tomorrow morning and is expected to be lowered to status orange by 8am and to status yellow by 11am

It comes as a yellow wind and rain warning for Cork, which was due to remain in effect until 6pm, has been lifted.

The M8 has reopened near Fermoy following the overturning of a HGV during Storm Barra but traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction

Works are underway to restore supply as quickly as possible to affected areas in the city and county. 

In Ballyphehane, it was a close call for Mandy O’Brien who awoke to find a tree and ended up suspended by a phone wire and leaning on her garden wall

Speaking to The Echo, a Garda spokesperson explained a crane was needed to move the truck and this would not be on scene until tomorrow at the earliest.

At least 20 fallen trees have been reported across the city and powerlines have also fallen. Cork City Fire Brigade and ESB crews have been busy responding to incidents across the city.

More than 4,000 properties across the city and county remain without power this afternoon as Storm Barra continues to sweep across Cork.
