The theme for the black-tie charity event is ‘Second Time Around’ and Mr Boyle is encouraging all guests to wear pre-loved or vintage clothing, promoting sustainability and the reuse of resources.

This year, the Lord Mayor, Green Party councillor Dan Boyle, will preside over the ceremony, while Larysa Gerasko, Ukraine’s ambassador to Ireland, will also be present.

Caitríona Twomey, Penny Dinners volunteer co-ordinator, said everyone in the charity was deeply honoured to be given a reception in City Hall.

The awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday, May 7, at a gala event in the Concert Hall, City Hall.

As part of Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival, the reception celebrated two milestones in UCC’s commitment to equality and social justice.
