Cork people are invited to submit nominations for the 23rd Lord Mayor’s Civic, Community, and Voluntary Awards.

The annual event recognises outstanding voluntary commitment, dedication, and community building among people and organisations in Cork city.

Each year, an award is presented to six category winners, and one overall winner, in recognition of the services they provide within their communities.

The six categories are: Arts, culture and heritage community development; lifelong learning; social inclusion, advocacy, and integration; social enterprise innovation; climate action and sustainable development; recreation, sport, health, and wellbeing.

A further six nominees will also receive a Lord Mayor’s Civic award, in recognition of their efforts to improve their community, as well as an additional winner of the annual Lord Mayor’s Culture Award.

Heart of Cork city

Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy said the more than 500 organisations active in the community and voluntary sector form the “very heart of Cork city”.

“For more than two decades, these awards have offered a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the invaluable contributions of individuals and organisations whose voluntary efforts enrich our communities,” said Mr Dennehy.

“I now encourage the people of Cork to nominate the community and voluntary groups who deserve recognition for the vital work they do.

“I look forward to celebrating these remarkable contributions at our awards ceremony in June.”

Editor of the Irish Examiner and The Echo, John O’Mahony, said the company is: “Once again, very proud to be part of the Lord Mayor’s Community and Voluntary Awards, as we have been since their inception.”

“It’s so important that we celebrate and share the stories of those who give so much of themselves, so often selflessly and tirelessly, to their communities and city, yet ask so little in return. With these awards, we have an opportunity to give something back.”

The closing date for nominations is set for April 3, with the winners announced at a civic ceremony in Cork City Hall on June 10.
