The Lady Mayoress of Cork, Karen Brennan, announced details of her upcoming International Women’s Day (IWD) Event at a special launch yesterday.

The annual IWD event, which is open to the public, will take place on February 27 from 10am to 1pm in the Millennium Hall at City Hall.

Ms Brennan said the aim of next month’s event is to highlight the importance of knowledge and support in helping women.

The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘With knowledge we thrive, with support we rise’, and some of the groups and organisations confirmed to attend include Cuanlee, LinC, Pregnancy Loss Research Group, Good Shepherd, Mayfield Women's Shed, Network Cork, The Sexual Violence Centre, and Ruhama.

Speaking at the launch, Ms Brennan said across Cork city “there are incredible supports available for women at every stage of life, and I want to encourage women to reach out and make use of them”.

“We don’t have to do everything on our own,” said Ms Brennan.

“There is a helping hand, a listening ear, and practical support in every corner of our community.

“Taking that first step and asking for help takes courage, but it is often where real action and meaningful change begin.

“When women feel supported, informed, and connected, they are empowered to move forward with confidence and our entire city is stronger for it.”
