Heritage talk on history of Cork Prison is well attended

Around 100 people attended a talk on the old Cork Prison in The Glen as part of the recent Heritage Week.
An application by the Irish Prison Service to demolish the old building, so that a new one can be built in its place, is currently being decided.
The talk by Undercover Irish podcaster and historian Eolan Ryng looked at the history of the facility, where many Irish revolutionaries were imprisoned.
Mr Ryng told after the event: “What an unbelievable turnout for the first ever live talk from Undercover Irish.
“I am so honoured that so many people came out to hear the history of Cork’s own Kilmainham.” He added: “I’m so proud that Undercover Irish could host such a successful event. This is a podcast about Ireland’s hidden history and this building and its story embodies what I always hoped to do with the podcast.
“This is our heritage, our history, our story. I would encourage anyone with an interest to download a free booklet and to join the campaign. Hands off our heritage.”
The booklet published by Mr Ryng and Dee Moore details some of the site’s history, and can be downloaded on the Undercover Irish Instagram.
