Munster Technological University (MTU) is seeking to construct a new €22m high performance indoor athletics training centre (HPAC) at its Bishopstown campus.

The 5,250sq metre facility will be located to the south of the existing running track.

In the eTender, MTU is seeking to appoint a contractor to undertake the construction of the new three-storey building, part of the second phase of its arena expansion project. Phase one was completed in February 2023.

The new structure will be connected to the existing MTU arena, and will be comprised of a training centre, sports labs, classrooms, studios, plant areas, and an external roof terrace.

This will include a large multi event zone including high jump, pole vault, sprint track, long/triple jump, an elite training facility, aerobics studios, labs, and academic accommodation.

The project is expected to be delivered within 30 months, with construction to start in the first quarter of next year.

Required works for the new facility will include the partial demolition and relocation of materials from an existing astro-turf pitch, the construction of the building including the sports hall, its sports facilities, and other associated spaces.

As part of the contract, the successful tenderer will be required to provide relevant pre planning documents, and attend monthly progress meetings.

The tenderer would also be required to work around ongoing university activities, with the main MTU Arena maintaining its day-to-day levels of operation throughout the construction process.

Construction would also be restricted during university examination times.

Following the commencement of works, the tenderer will be required to provide alternative pedestrian access to the campus from the arena.

Interested applicants will have until 12.30pm on November 13 to make a submission.
