High-speed broadband comes to West Cork's Bere Island

Engineers working on the broadband project on Bere Island.

National Broadband Ireland has announced that 317 homes and businesses on Bere Island can now connect to high-speed fibre broadband.

The completion of works on Bere Island means that 58,751 premises can now pre-order or order high-speed, reliable broadband across Cork, with 18,996 connections made to date.

Works have also been completed in rural areas surrounding Carrigaline, Templemartin, Midleton and across the Beara peninsula.

TJ Malone, chief executive officer at National Broadband Ireland, said that people living on Bere Island can now access the same broadband connection as communities on the mainland.

“The delivery of high-speed broadband to the islands is having a transformative impact on what are some of the most remote communities in the country,” he said.

National Broadband Ireland is encouraging all Cork residents to visit nbi.ie and check their eircode to see if they are ready to connect and find out more about placing an order.
