A Cork man who admitted he was the driver of a vehicle that was found at a crash scene without number plates has been convicted in the district court.

Sergeant Trish O’Sullivan told Macroom District Court that gardaí were called to the scene of a single vehicle road traffic accident at Coolnagearagh, Coachford, Co Cork, on December 14, 2024, at 5pm.

A car at the scene was causing an obstruction to the public road. There was no driver or anybody with the car, which did not have any number plates visible.

Following a search, documents were recovered identifying 44-year-old Daniel Long of Knockanowen, Coachford, Co Cork, as the owner of the vehicle.

Long was interviewed two weeks later in relation to the incident and admitted he was the driver of the car. He also admitted to the removal of the plates and was charged with not having the vehicle’s identification mark displayed.

The court was told Long had three previous convictions.

Judge Joanne Carroll said Long was the driver of the car involved in an accident, that he left scene and took the numberplate off of the vehicle. He was convicted and fined €350, which was paid in court.
