Chocolate brownies with edible cannabis were found in the freezer at the home of a 25-year-old man who also had €4,900 worth of cannabis herb and cash of over €2,000, which was the proceeds of drug dealing, a court has heard.

Detective Garda Darren Twomey testified at Cork Circuit Criminal Court that the drugs and cash were seized by gardaí at Croaghtamore Square, Glasheen, Cork, on November 1, 2020.

At Cork Circuit Criminal Court, Matthew Limerick of Belmont, Douglas, Cork, signed a plea of guilty to a number of charges arising out of the seizure of cannabis and cash.

He admitted possession of the cannabis and having it for sale or otherwise supplying to others.

He also signed a plea of guilty to the money-laundering charge in respect of the €2,000.

Det Gda Twomey gave evidence of being on patrol on Bandon Rd at around 11pm that night when he saw the accused driving a bike to St Finbarr’s Park, where he approached a parked car, handed an item to a person in the car, and received money.

“This was believed to be drug-related, and he was arrested on suspicion of being involved in the sale or supply of drugs,” said Det Gda Twomey.

“A search of his premises under warrant was carried out, and a large amount of cannabis was found, together with a weighing scales and cash and edibles in the form of brownies in the freezer. The plant material had a street value of €4,900, and the cannabis THC [tetrahydrocannabinol] brownies had an approximate value of €200.”
