Cork marks 35th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence Day

The Lord Mayor of Cork councillor Damian Boylan was on hand to lead the flag raising ceremony at Cork City Hall marking the 35th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence Day.

Mr Boylan was joined by members of the Ukrainian Community in Cork for Monday’s ceremony.

He told The Echo that the flag raising ceremony was a reminder of how Cork stands with the people of Ukraine “and their right to determine their own future.”

“I was proud to raise the Ukrainian flag outside Cork City Hall to mark 35 years of Ukrainian independence.

“It was an important moment to stand with Cork’s Ukrainian community and to recognise their pride in their country, their culture and their identity,” said Mr Boylan.

“Over the past number of years, many Ukrainians have made Cork their home and have become part of the fabric of our city.

“The flag raising was a simple but important gesture of friendship and solidarity.”
