Cork student crowned as Miss Universe Ireland 2024

A Cork student has been crowned Miss Universe Ireland 2024.

Sofia Labus, 21, of Montenotte, was honoured with the win at this year’s ceremony, which was hosted at The Fairways Hotel in Dundalk.

Ms Labus, a criminology student at University College Cork (UCC), was one of 27 finalists who competed at the ceremony, which featured a special-guest performance from Irish chart-topping Boyband ‘Next in Line’.

Current title holder, Aisha Akorede, crowned Ms Labus, who will now go on to represent Ireland at the 73rd Miss Universe competition on November 16 in Mexico.

The competition later this year will feature 90 women from around the globe vying for the job of Miss Universe, selected through events on the day, which include personal statements, in-depth interviews, evening gown modelling, and swimwear modelling.

The evening will culminate with the 72nd Miss Universe, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua crowning her successor.

In a post shared on social media, Ms Labus said: “I am eternally grateful for everyone behind the show and most importantly for my Miss Universe Ireland sisters who are my friends for life.

“The feeling of waking up as your Miss Universe Ireland is indescribable.

“I cannot wait to see what this journey holds for me going forward.”
