Sarsfields 1-8, Na Piarsaigh 1-2

Sarsfields rounded off a special evening for the club by sealing their spot in the Camogie Premier Intermediate League final, defeating Na Piarsaigh by six points at Riverstown on Monday evening.

Having watched the Senior team do their bit earlier in the evening, the Intermediate side set out to reach the League final, up against stiff opposition from the northside.

In a fairly tame first half, both sides struggled to create clear-cut scoring opportunities. Chloe Casey played an instrumental role in Sars’ victory, grabbing consecutive points in the opening five minutes to set the tone.

Na Piarsaigh got their first score a minute later through Rebecca Rourke.

From there, the game fell into a slumber. Aine Ring grabbed the first goal of the game for Na Piarsaigh in the 27th minute, which came in between two further scores from Casey, in the 15th and 30th minutes.

Sars saw their own effort rewarded with a green flag in the first minute of additional times, when Deirdre McCarthy blasted the sliotar high into the Piarsaigh net, to send the hosts into the dressing home ahead at half-time, with the score 1-4 to 1-1.

Na Piarsaigh would go on to rue missed opportunities throughout the contest. Indeed, they only managed one further score, courtesy of Casey Coleman in the 47th minute. Had they been more clinical, the outcome might’ve been different.

Sars bossed the second half, with Megan Sheehan and Casey splitting four points between them. Two came in quick succession, in the 32nd and 37th minutes. Sheehan grabbed her second with four minutes to go, before Casey rounded off the scoring in the fifth minute of additional time, sealing a memorable victory for the hosts.

A straightforward victory for Sarsfields, who will face Ballincollig in the final. With confidence brewing, they will back themselves to bring more success to the famous old club.
