Driver pleads guilty to careless driving causing serious harm to a pensioner in Cork city

A 19-year-old motorist has pleaded guilty to careless driving causing serious harm to a pensioner in Cork city.

Siobhan Ring of Castlemanor, Carrignavar, Co Cork, was arraigned at Cork Circuit Criminal Court where she pleaded guilty to one charge.

Ms Ring admitted careless driving on April 7, 2023, at Patrick Street, Cork city, causing serious bodily harm to a woman aged in her 70s.

Her defence barrister, Emmet Boyle, applied for a medical report on the defendant, Ms Ring.

A victim-impact statement is also to be prepared in advance of the sentencing of the driver.

Judge Helen Boyle adjourned sentencing in the case until February 22.
