The collision on Wednesday afternoon involved two cars and there were initially reports of multiple casualties.

A man in his 20s has been arrested following a two-car road traffic collision on Cork’s northside on Wednesday.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision on Bakers Road in Gurranabraher on Wednesday afternoon, around 2pm.

The collision involved two cars and there were initially reports of multiple casualties.

Witnesses on the scene told The Echo that three trucks from Cork Fire Brigade attended the scene, along with three garda vehicles and an ambulance.

It is understood that several people were treated at the scene of the collision for minor injuries, and a man in his 50s and a woman in her 60s were taken to Cork University Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to the garda press office, a man aged in his 20s was arrested and taken to a garda station in Cork City.

The scene was cleared and the road reopened within an hour of the collision.

Investigations are ongoing, according to gardaí.

In a separate incident, motorists experienced long delays on the west bound lanes of the N40 following an incident on Wednesday afternoon at the Sarsfield’s Road exit, where it is believed a motorist suffered a medical emergency.
