A suspicious device was found in Dublin on Sunday afternoon.

The device was found in the Royal Canal at Newcomen Bridge, Dublin 3 at approximately 12:30pm.

A cordon was established and the Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team attended the scene.

Gardaí said that the EOD team have now removed the suspect device.

The area has been declared safe and the cordon has since been lifted.

Investigations are ongoing.
