Search conducted in Cork as part of operation to combat New IRA

“The searches are being conducted by members of the Special Detective Unit assisted by local gardaí and regional armed support units,” a spokesperson said. 

A search was conducted in Cork this morning as part of ongoing operations to combat the activities of the New IRA.

Gardaí carried out searches in a number of locations, including Cork, in support of an operation led by the PSNI.

Searches also took place in counties Dublin, Laois and Kerry.

“The searches in this jurisdiction are being carried out at locations in Dublin, Laois, Cork and Kerry and are part of ongoing operations to combat the activities of the New IRA,” a garda spokesperson told The Echo.

“The searches are being conducted by members of the Special Detective Unit assisted by local gardaí and regional armed support units.”

The Echo understands the search in Cork took place in the southside of the city early in the morning.

It is understood that no arrests were made as part of the searches in Ireland.

Gardaí said that they had no further information to release at this time.
