Division 1 reports:

It was a busy weekend of McCarthy Insurance Group Football League action but not as busy as normal weekends.

That's down to Cork’s participation in the Allianz Division 2 Football League final against Meath on Sunday in Croke Park. There are no club games being played on Leeside on Sunday.

There were games down for decision in the seven divisions mostly on Friday and Saturday in what was the Round 3 stage.

In Division 1, St Finbarr’s edged out Nemo Rangers in Trabeg last Wednesday. On Saturday evening, Éire Óg hung on to beat Douglas in Ovens and home side Clonakilty lost by a point to Knocknagree. Those reports are attached to the start of this article.

Moving down to the division below, Carrigaline are top of Division 2 after defeating Clyda Rovers on home soil.

Michael Meaney’s charges have five points on the board now as a result of the 0-16 to 1-5 triumph. Clyda Rovers are on two points. Éanna Desmond and Brian Coakley did the bulk of the scoring for the winners.

After defeat first day out, it’s now two wins on the trot for Ballincollig.

Their latest victory came away to Castletownbere, 2-12 to 0-8. It was fairly routine with newcomer to the panel Kevin O’Leary banging in the two goals.

Cian Dorgan was hugely influential including three two-pointers for the Muskerry men. Castletownbere remain without any points.

Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh kicked the last three points to draw at home to Dohenys as it finished 1-11 apiece. Adam O’Donovan scored a goal for the second game on the bounce for the Carbery side and it looked like a key score that would help Dohenys to a win.

But Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh rallied with a white flag from Seán Ó Luasa and a pair of efforts late on through Donagh Shorten as they move on to three points, one behind Dohenys.

Finally from this division, St Michael’s proved too strong for O’Donovan Rossa in Mahon. The home side won 1-12 to 1-6. Both sides were on two points beforehand but James Ryan’s 1-1 and Luke O’Herlihy’s 0-3 went a long way to securing victory for St Michael’s.

In Division 3, Mallow, the leaders with four points prior to Round 3, suffered a heavy loss against Aghabullogue at Coachford.

The Muskerry side won 2-16 to 0-7 as they led from pillar to post with Matthew Bradley landing 0-10 including three orange flags. Aaron O’Sullivan and Luke Casey slotted home the goals.

Aghabullogue now move on to four points.

Kanturk are upwardly mobile after picking up another win following a big away victory over Kilshannig on a scoreline of 2-21 to 0-14.

Eoghain O’Connor’s side have just played the two games but have four points. Grantas Bucinskas scored 1-6 while Colin Walsh was also influential with 0-5. Daniel O’Connell got 1-2.

Kilshannig remain on two points following a second successive loss.

Bishopstown are also level on points with Kanturk and others after doing enough to see off pointless Newmarket at home, 0-17 to 1-12. Conor Dunne was the chief scorer for the Town with Simon Collins, Jack Tompkins, Liam Hogan and Kieran McFadden also among the scorers.

Naomh Abán have moved on to three points with Colm Murphy’s goal proving crucial in the 1-14 to 0-14 triumph over Rockchapel in Cloughduv.

Ed Myers was to the fore for the winners with 0-8.

Rockchapel have only played two games, but have yet to pick up any points.
