The €20m flood defence scheme for Blackpool has been approved by the Minister for Public Expenditure Michael McGrath. Mr McGrath gave formal consent on Thursday for the project to be referred to the Office of Public Works for appraisal.

Funding has yet to be secured for additional repair works to prevent further flooding at the Atlantic Pond. Cork City Council announced last September that works would be undertaken at the Atlantic Pond to prevent flooding in future.
