Cork County Council issues warning against operators offering to install Midleton flood barriers

Midleton flooding: Cork County Council said: “There is no cost to the property owner receiving barriers through the IPP scheme.”

Residents of East Cork have been warned to avoid third-party operators who are offering to install flood barriers on their homes, because the cost of these cannot be reimbursed from the council, despite what the operators are claiming.

The Midleton and East Cork Individual Property Protection (IPP) Scheme involves Cork County Council sourcing and providing IPP to eligible applicants.

In a statement issued this week, the council said: “Cork County Council understands that members of the public in the East Cork area have been approached by third-party operators who have offered to install flood protection on their property, if costs are paid up front.

“The operators are advising that the property owner can then contact Cork County Council for reimbursement of these costs.”

“These third parties are not working on behalf of the Council, and there will be no avenue for reimbursement through Cork County Council should payments be made directly to these operators.”

They added that property owners who are due to receive barriers through the Individual Property Protection (IPP) scheme currently underway will be contacted by the contractors appointed by Cork County Council, adding: “There is no cost to the property owner receiving barriers through the IPP Scheme.”

If a member of the public has any concerns about the IPP scheme, they should contact Cork County Council by email at ipp@corkcoco.ie, or by telephone 021-4386619.
