When construction works mean part of the line is unusable, passengers will get off the train a stop or two earlier and coaches hired by the train company from private companies will take them the remainder of the way.

The programme will deliver 11 Sustainable Transport Corridors across Cork city, covering 90km of bus lanes as well as 95km of cycle lane facilities.

Residents of Ballyrichard More near Midleton are calling for a new bridge to enable them to cross the railway. Amy Campbell reports.

The application submitted by Iarnród Éireann requested permission to provide an additional 46 parking spaces at Millstreet train station, including seven for EV charging stations.

Iarnród Éireann provided The Echo with details of almost 40 complaints including instances of drinking on trains, physical violence, and open drug use.

Work is due to commence on the long awaited Lehenaghmore and Lehenaghbeg Road scheme next month.

Overall, 412 schools are in the programme. Almost 15% are located on “higher-speed rural roads”, where speed limits of 80km/h or 100km/h were in place.

In the year-to-date, Cork Airport has experienced sustained growth, with passenger traffic up 14% versus the same period (January-May) last year.

Rates of evasion varied widely across routes, with two Cork routes having the highest evasion rates of all Bus Éireann buses.

Once public consultation closes on June 9, the team will take the feedback, consider tweaks to the route, and publish a preferred route “probably in the course of the next year”.

Government figures show that over the last eight years, an average of 33 roads were repaired a year in Cork at an average cost of nearly €50,000.

Proposal to integrate harbour ferry, bus, train, and Luas ticketing

The emerging preferred route sees the Luas go from St Patrick’s Street to McCurtain St before making its way to Kent Station.

Following the return of the 220 route to 15 minute frequency, calls have been made for enhancements to other bus routes across the city. 

"If we are talking in the medium term, then it seems crazy not to put in place any provision for a north-south route," Cork South Central TD Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire said.

The route will run from Knockraha to Parnell Pl Bus Station in the city centre, and serve Crestfield and Hazelwood shopping centres, Glanmire Business Park, Glanmire Community College, and John O’Callaghan Park.

The new service will operate four daily returns from Castletownbere to Allihies, from Monday to Sunday, with two return services per day extending to Dursey.
