Valley Rovers 2-28 Ballymartle 1-17

Valley Rovers proved far too strong for Ballymartle in a one-sided Ross Oil South East Junior A Hurling semi-final at Ballinhassig.

Valleys' second team will now meet Kinsale, who beat Belgooly in a far more dramatic semi-final the day before. When Eoin O'Reilly played a perfect pass to Conor Taheny on 17 minutes his side's second goal it was already game over.

O'Reilly had grabbed the opening goal after just two minutes. It was 1-2 to 0-1 before Ballymartle went on a run, Conor Kelleher claiming three of the four scores that tied the game by the 13th minute.

John Cottrell showed all his experience for Valleys while Eoghan Gagley and Taheny were also very influential, as frees from Dan O'Leary were keeping them in the contest after the second goal.

Kevin Dart O'Flynn claimed two fine scores for the Innishannon outfit, who added three more points to a fine individual reply from Lewis Keohane Kiely to leave 2-11 to 0-9 at half-time.

Any possibility of a revival was snuffed out as Valleys hit seven points without reply, including a classy Niall Daly point.

Ballymartle didn't throw in the towel and, led by the hardworking Ken O'Callaghan, Ballymartle hit four consecutive points of their own, two from O'Callaghan and one apiece from Keohane Kiely and O'Leary, as the score narrowed from 2-18 to 0-13 on 41 minutes.

And despite a more competitive edge to the contest for the remainder of the game, with the sides exchanging scores and Matt Higgins goaling but Valleys never looked in serious trouble.

They rattled off five unanswered points late on and now face Kinsale in the divisional decider in the coming weeks.
