Carrigaline United beat Ringmahon Rangers in a very competitive Daly Industrial Supplies U17 Premier League game at Ringmahon Park last Saturday morning.

Carrigaline came into this fixture with two wins against Douglas Hall and Midleton respectively and now after this victory they now join Rockmount on top of the table.

After a very competitive opening half, it was Carrigaline who led by one goal to nil from a Jack Leahy header in the 36th minute.

The game was settled in a two minute period in the second half, Robert Allen equalised in the 80th minute for Ringmahon, however, Sean Auzins restored Carrig’s lead a minute later to give them all three points.

After a frantic opening ten minutes, the first real chance fell to the Ringer’s Luke Dowling, he made a sweet turn on the edge of the Carrigaline box, but Jamie Lynch made a very timely block and cleared the lines for his team.

The visitors, Carrigaline came more into the game and Shane Mee had the ball in the Ringmahon net, however, referee Daniel Daunt rightly ruled it out for offside.

Dowling was very dangerous whenever he was on the ball for Ringmahon and when he received a neat pass from Callum Fox in the 24th minute, he saw his powerful 25 yard effort go the wrong side of the post.

Then three minutes later on the other side of the pitch the Ringer’s goalkeeper Alex O’Connor was called into action when he had to push Carrigaline’s James Byrne’s effort around the post.

Carrigaline’s Kyle Barry then show great feet to breeze past his defender in the 35th minute, however, a brilliant tackle by Ryan McHale put the ball out for a corner kick.

From the resulting corner, Carrigaline broke the deadlock to lead 1-0, Charlie Kennedy swung in a beautiful delivery and Jack Leahy was at the back post to head home.

The visitors had an excellent opportunity to increase their lead on the stroke of half time, however, Leahy’s free kick was well saved by O’Connor in the Ringmahon goal.

It was the home side who started the second half with the bit between their teeth with Dowling who was instrumental in all their good play.

And in the 59th minute Iarlaith Hayes swung in a beautiful delivery only for Dowling to see his overhead effort specifically tipped over the bar by Carri’s net minder Jack Ward on the hour mark.

He thought he levelled the game two minutes later, but his effort was ruled out, as he was marginally offside.

The home side had another glorious chance to level the game in the 67th minute when Jake O’Regan made a strong run into the box, but he poked his effort inches wide.

Carrig had a half chance to increase their lead four minutes later when Barry pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box, but his effort sailed over the bar.

They came very close again in the 75th minute when Joshua Coveney tried to chip O’Connor in the Ringmahon goal, but he saw his effort go narrowly over the bar.

Ringmahon got their reward for all their hard work when the levelled the game 1-1in the 80th minute a spectacular effort from 25 yards from Robert Allen.

However, Carrigaline restored their one goal advantage to lead 2-1 a minute later when Sean Auzins scored from close range and that was enough to win the game.
