The second round of the McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Football Championships brought plenty more thrills and spills, as both Carrigaline and Valley Rovers maintained their perfect records in the PSFC, putting themselves in a strong position to reach the knockout phase.

Behind those results were some exceptional individual displays, and many more throughout the top three grades make up this week’s Echo Cork Football Team of the Week.

Goalkeeper: Colm O’Neill (Glanmire) 0-5 (2 tpf, 0-1 45)

Former Cork footballer Colm O’Neill top-scored for Glanmire between the posts, kicking a total of 0-5 and almost winning the game for his side with a late two-point free. He was influential with regular goalkeeping duties too, making a phenomenal save to deny Seamus Hickey in the final quarter.

Corner-back: Chris O’Herlihy (Carrigaline)

Excellent for Carrigaline as they scored a second-consecutive win, and doing so without Brian O’Driscoll made it that bit more impressive. O’Herlihy was superb at full-back.

Full-back: Alan O’Connor (St Finbarr’s)

Rock solid as he so often is, O’Connor’s defensive quality was key as St Finbarr’s rebounded from their opening round defeat with a comfortable victory over Douglas.

Corner-back: Kealan Buckley (Knocknagree)

Knocknagree’s cruise to victory over Ballincollig did not always look as though it would pan out that way, and they required intervention from defenders more than once. Buckley was one such hero, making a fantastic block to deny Darragh Ó Sé the goal that would have got their opponents back into it.

Half-back: John O’Rourke (Carbery Rangers) 0-3

One of the best performers across the weekend, former Cork senior O’Rourke was immense for Carbery Rangers as they swatted aside O’Donovan Rossa. He chipped in with three points, but his influence was all over the build-up in Ross’s attack.

Centre-back: Daniel O’Mahony (Knocknagree)

Another Knocknagree defender to pop up with a last-ditch block, he denied Darragh O’Mahony early in the second half to prevent Knocknagree from falling further behind. He put in a superb shift at centre-back for the eventual winners.

Half-back: Kevin O’Donovan (Nemo Rangers) 0-4

Nemo rebounded well after their opening round defeat and O’Donovan was key to it, superb at wing-back as he kicked four points from play in their victory over St Michael’s.

Midfielder: Thomas Egan (St Finbarr’s) 1-0

Took his goal wonderfully and worked tirelessly in the middle, the young St Finbarr’s footballer was excellent in the victory over Douglas.

Midfielder: Jack McCarthy (Carrigaline) 0-3

Another Carrigaline player to make the cut, Jack McCarthy put up a strong showing from midfield in their victory over Mallow, chipping in with three from play.

Half-forward: Paul Walsh (Kanturk) 1-2

While Dohenys did their best to curb his influence, Paul Walsh was a constant thorn anytime he was in possession. Finished with 1-2 including the goal in added time that brought Kanturk back to life, assisted two points and played a crucial role in the first Kanturk goal.

Centre-forward: Steven Sherlock (St Finbarr’s) 1-6 (0-3 f)

Has reached a level where 1-3 from play looks ordinary from Sherlock. That’s how good he is for St Finbarr’s. Brought more of the same high standard in their win over Douglas.

Half-forward: Fintan Fenner (Castletownbere) 0-11 (2 tpf, 0-2 f, 1 tp)

Despite coming out on the losing side, Fintan Fenner was outstanding for Castetownbere. Finished with five from play and raised three orange flags, scoring 0-11 of their 1-14 haul.

Corner-forward: Chris Óg Jones (Uibh Laoire) 1-8

Every single season, Chris Óg Jones puts up remarkable tallies for Uibh Laoire, and he’s done so again in the first two games. That’s 4-12, all but one point from play so far.

Full-forward: Ben Seartan (Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh) 1-7 (2 tp)

With the opening round hammering from Kanturk firmly put behind them, Ben Seartan was to the fore for Ballingeary as he scored a staggering 1-7 from play against Aghabullogue, including two two-pointers.

Corner-forward: Dylan O’Neill (Carbery Rangers) 1-6

Outstanding from start to finish, a constant threat that O’Donovan Rossa had no answer to. Dylan O’Neill was the top scorer for the Rosscarbery side as they saw off Skibb with ease.

Substitutes:

Stephen Daly (Dohenys) 0-4 (2 tpf)

Michael McSweeney (Knocknagree) 0-4 (1 tp)

Jacob O’Driscoll (Valley Rovers) 0-2 (1 tp)

Eoin Guinane (Valley Rovers) 0-2

Alan O’Connell (Kilshannig) 1-3

Éanna Desmond (Carrigaline) 0-5 (2 tp)

Ross Corkery (Nemo Rangers) 0-9 (0-3 f, 1 tp)

Ryan O’Keeffe (Newmarket) 0-8 (2 tpf, 0-1 45)

Fintan O’Connor (Knocknagree) 1-4
