Gerry Hussey has left his role as performance coach with the Cork hurlers after a single season under manager Ben O’Connor, The Echo understands.
The Galway native arrived last winter as a significant addition to O’Connor’s backroom team, bringing a strong reputation from his work with Ireland’s Olympic boxers and his involvement in Tipperary’s 2016 All-Ireland triumph alongside Tony Óg Regan.

Results, however, never fully aligned with Cork’s ambitions. The Rebels reached the Division 1A League final but were beaten, lost the Munster final, and then faded badly in their All-Ireland semi-final against Galway, losing 2-26 to 1-18 in a display that lacked the spark of earlier months.
The nature of that defeat brought scrutiny across all areas of the set-up, and Hussey’s departure now adds change to O’Connor’s support team as Cork look to reset for 2027.
Attention now turns to the shape of the backroom team for next year. While Hussey moves on, it is expected that Ronan Curran will remain involved as a selector.
