Cooler and drier conditions are expected across Cork today as temperatures continue to drop ahead of this weekend.

Met Éireann has predicted sunny spells for Cork this afternoon following some light overnight showers.

Daytime temperatures will range between 12C and 19C with light to moderate west to southwest winds, occasionally becoming fresh and gusty.

Clear spells will continue into this evening, with some scattered showers expected in some parts of the region tonight.

Temperatures will reach lows of between 11C and 14C with light to moderate west to northwest winds, occasionally becoming fresh and gusty.

Tomorrow will start off as a breezy day with sunny spells and widespread showers, some of which will turn heavy before the evening.

Highest temperatures of 14C to 19C are expected, with moderate to fresh northerly winds.

Tomorrow night will be mainly dry with some isolated light showers, with lowest temperatures of 8C to 11C predicted.

Traffic

Meanwhile, traffic across Cork city has started to pick up this morning, however little to no congestion has been observed yet on major city links including the N40 and the M28.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) continues to advise motorists to expect delays on the M8 due to ongoing roadworks.

A section of the motorway, between Junction 7 at Cashel (North) to Junction 6 at Thurles, will be closed until September 5 from 8am to 6pm each day.

Another section of the M8 from Junction 19 at Dunkettle to Junction 18 at Glanmire (Northbound) has reopened to traffic following overnight roadworks.

Outlook for coming days 

Friday will be bright with spells of sunshine and well scattered showers, with temperatures ranging between 14C and 19C with moderate northerly winds.

Further into the weekend, Saturday will also be a bright day with spells of sunshine and scattered light showers.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C with light to moderate north to northwest winds predicted.

It will remain largely dry on Saturday night with long clear spells, with some mist and fog developing in near calm conditions.

Lowest temperatures of 7C to 10C are predicted.

Mist and fog will gradually clear on Sunday morning, becoming a largely dry and bright day apart from isolated showers.

Highest temperatures of 15C to 19C with light and variable winds are predicted.
