Cork football: Quintet of pivotal games available to watch on Clubber this Sunday

There is the potential for a super Sunday of Cork club football action following the confirmation of the fixtures streamed by Clubber this weekend.

Five games, all on Sunday and four of them in the McCarthy Insurance Group Premier SFC, are set to shown by the broadcaster, which is in the second of a three-year partnership with Cork County Board.

Two attractive double-headers backbone the coverage, meaning that those with the Clubber Full Season Annual Pass can channel-hop to keep abreast of the developing situations on ‘moving weekend’.

At Páirc Uí Rinn, the first game – in Group 1 – is an intriguing one as it brings together two clubs who have experienced fluctuating fortunes in recent years, up to an including this year’s opening round.

Carrigaline were relegated from the top flight in 2023, bouncing straight back in 2024; they lost to Newcestown on penalties in last year’s quarter-final but got off to a flier this time around by overcoming reigning champions St Finbarr’s.

Their opponents are Mallow – the same team that condemned them to the drop three years ago, after a replay. The north Cork outfit recovered from that experience to make the 2024 semi-finals but failed to qualify from their group last year and opened with a defeat to Douglas three weeks ago.

That match is followed by a Group 2 encounter which is essentially an eliminator as both Nemo Rangers and St Michael’s were beaten in their first outings, against Newcestown and Valley Rovers respectively. The winners will be back in the mix, but it will be all-but-impossible for the losers to progress and relegation fears will begin to grow.

Macroom hosts a mix of premier senior and senior A and first up at 2pm is the all-Muskerry second-tier clash of Aghabullogue and Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh.

The Coachford side, last year’s premier intermediate champions, raced into a big lead against Dohenys in their first game before being pegged back for a draw while their Gaeltacht opponennts were beaten by Kanturk and cannot afford another loss.

Also at the Castle Grounds is what could be a tense affair in Group 3 of the Premier SFC as Ballincollig take on Knocknagree at 4.15pm. With Ballincollig having lost to Castlehaven while top-flight new boys Knocknagree fell to Clonakilty, this is must-win for both but someone will be dropping points and seeing knockout ambitions dissipate.

The other match in that section, the west Cork derby between the Haven and Clon, takes place in Rosscarbery in 3.30pm. It should draw a large crowd but those who cannot make it in person will be able to watch it on Clubber as the pair target early knockout qualificiation.
