Adeleke and English aim for medals at European Championships tonight

Marcus Lawler was the first of the Irish athletes competing in tonight's races at the European Championships in Birmingham.

Carlow athlete Lawler finished his 200-metre semi-final in eighth place. He will be back competing in the relay event in the coming days.

Fellow Irish athlete Sean Aigboboh had a better result, coming fourth in his 200m semi-final.

Later tonight, Rhasidat Adeleke and Mark English will be attempting to win medals.

At 9.29pm, English will be among the favourites to win the men's 800 metres final, while Adeleke takes to the track for the women's 200 metres final at 9.50pm.
