Cormac Costello claims long puc prize at Adrigole Festival

While he is better known as a footballer, eight-time All-Ireland winner Cormac Costello’s proficiency with a hurley earned him success at the recent Beara GAA Festival.

Costello, who Leinster MHC medals with Dublin in 2011 and 2012, claimed victory in the adult section of the club’s Long Puc, while the juvenile prize was won by Evan Gleeson from Drom & Inch in Co. Tipperary.

A key part of the festival is the annual Adrigole GAA Five-Mile Run, which is organised in conjunction with Beara AC, and Aidan Rundel Muller and Julie O’Brien were the respective winners.

Proudly sponsored by Five Star Fitness Kenmare, the event had 92 participants taking on the scenic but demanding course. Rundel Muller came in first in a time of 30:18, with O’Brien of Durrus AC the first woman home in 34:20. Bantry AC’s Darragh Coppinger claimed the juvenile title in 33:15.

The race is quickly becoming a must-ru event for running enthusiasts, thanks to the tough and challenging nature of the route, which continues to attract runners looking to test themselves a unique course.

Equally as important, those taking part are grateful for the fun, friendly and welcoming atmosphere, making it a race people look forward to returning to year after year. Adrigole GAA Club wish to thanks the volunteers, stewards and everyone who helped organise the event.
