Southampton await their fate with ‘Spygate’ hearing set for Tuesday

The independent commission hearing on ‘Spygate’ is due to take place on Tuesday as everyone connected to Southampton, Middlesbrough and Hull awaits clarity on the Championship play-off final.
Saints were charged with a breach of EFL regulations 10 days ago having been reported for allegedly spying on a Boro training session at their Rockcliffe Park base ahead of the first leg of their semi-final encounter.
Tonda Eckert’s side survived an early onslaught to draw 0-0 at the Riverside Stadium and won the return fixture 2-1 after extra-time, setting up a play-off final between Southampton and surprise package Hull.

But Middlesbrough have publicly demanded that the Hampshire club are prevented from playing in the Wembley showpiece, which is scheduled for 4.30pm on Saturday, due to their conduct.
The Press Association understands the independent commission will meet to rule on the matter on Tuesday, but the potential for an appeal creates uncertainty for all three clubs, their fans and stakeholders.
Southampton and Hull have both been selling tickets since Friday, but the EFL warned the previous day it had “a number of contingency plans” in place depending on the outcome of proceedings.
While the governing body plans for a May 23rd final, it admitted: “Supporters should, however, be aware that the outcome of the disciplinary proceedings may yet result in changes to the fixture.”
Saints players resumed training on Sunday ahead of the scheduled Wembley showpiece following a break, while the Tigers are attempting to stay focused on a Saturday clash against the south coast club.
Sergej Jakirovic’s City trained last Thursday and Friday following their impressive semi-final victory at third-placed Millwall, before returning to their Cottingham base on Monday following a weekend off.
Boro players and staff, including boss Kim Hellberg, were due back at Rockliffe Park on Monday ahead of a possible play-off final appearance.
