Two league wins on the bounce for the North Cork side who reached last year's Premier SHC quarter-finals

Charleville manager Dominic Foley says his team wants to ‘win every game’ after a perfect start to life in Division 1 of the RedFM Hurling Leagues.

The north-Cork side opened their campaign with a victory over Carrigtwohill and they kept momentum by defeating the Glen Rovers 1-22 to 1-16 on Sunday morning at Blackpool with a near-perfect performance.

Almost everything went their way in the city as they turned a 0-16 to 0-8 half-time advantage into a comfortable cushion with a 35th-minute Cathal O’Carroll goal. The Glen did attempt a comeback, beginning with a Stephen Lynam goal in the 42nd minute to reduce the gap to seven points.

Charleville only scored three more times, not that it mattered as their backline was tight enough to prevent a second goal for the hosts.

Foley’s players calmly got the job done.

“I'm delighted. I know it's easy to say they're missing players and we're missing players but any time you go in, you come in with what you have,” he said.

“I'm sure they're the same. I'm delighted with our performance.

It's early in the year, but we want to win every game we play.”

SCORING SPREAD

Charleville picked up where they left off at the Carrigtwohill game with a balanced team performance with eight different scorers.

David Riordan, Tim Hawe, and Conor Buckley all tallied 0-5 while Cathal O’Carroll registered 1-2. This was very pleasing to Foley as he wants to see how his team develops while Darragh Fitzgibbon is away with the Cork hurlers.

“We do rely a lot on Darragh so we need to get a few more shooters in positions where they can score,” he said.

We have a few new young players coming through and they are gaining more experience and more confidence.

“It was good to see, and it was the quality of the scores we got. Some playing it out from the defence, running off the shoulders, and that's what we're looking for. Ball to hand and over the bar.”

The backline was the area Foley was most pleased with after they reduced the Glen to just two goal chances and one ended in a routine save by Conor Reynolds. Charleville focused on this a lot over the last few weeks after conceding three green flags against Carrigtwohill.

That wasn’t like Foley’s team in 2025, who conceded just one goal in last year's Premier Senior Hurling Championship. That was against Midleton in the final round of the group stages before they ran Sars close in the quarter-final.

“That's something we've worked on over the last few week, because during our first game against Carrigtwohill we conceded three goals,” he said.

“We played Mungret in a challenge last week and we conceded two goals. I think we didn't concede only one goal in the whole championship last year.

"We brought things back to the boys that we should be doing, and I think they did it very well against the Glen.”
