Mark Tobin scored five before Mallow Town booked their place in the third round of the AOH Cup after extra-time at the Mallow Racing Course football pitch.
Tobin was certainly the difference between the two sides and were it not for some excellent stops by Rylane’s keeper Matthew O’Leary, he could have got a few more.
The tie itself was very open and expansive as both sides adopted to a real attack-minded approach.
Rylane started well with Conor Kelleher being presented with an early chance, but the ball spun seemed to spin away from his path before Paul O’Rourke played a neat one into space for Noe Kollar, but he failed to control in front of goal and a chance went.
Rylane did get their noses in front when Paul O’Rourke did well to get away from his marker before setting up Kollar to tap home from close range.
Mallow started to get into their stride and it was honours even on 25 when Luis Salmeron collected from Tomas Cronin before setting off to produce an excellent finish to restore parity once again.
A delightful ball then from Stephen O’Sullivan found Mark Tobin on the left, he made headway towards goal to produce a wonderful finish from his angled effort on 28.
Mallow were now settled into the game and when Dylan McCarthy’s corner was cleared, it came back in for Dan Moloney, who failed to get force on his header, while unattended inside the box.
Mallow threatened again – this time it was Luis Salmeron, who collected from Steven O’Sullivan before twisting and turning to strike his effort off the far post.
Lovely build up play then led to Mallow’s third – Caleb Crone found Tomas Cronin with an accurate pass before he picked Tobin out in space – the Mallow striker made progress towards goal before slotting neatly into the corner and make it 3-1 on 37.
But, after Salmeron saw a fizzing effort from him, flash agonisingly past the post, Rylane reduced the arrears when Paul O’Rourke robbed Cian O’Callaghan before embarking on a run to slam past Osinski and make it 3-2 on 43.
Rylane started with plenty of energy as the second half took off, but after shots from Noe Kollar and Tim Lehane were blocked, Mallow broke with Caleb Crone coming so close with a low effort that skimmed the far post.
Rylane came close at the other end when from Gavin Leahy’s corner, Josh Grimes headed a looping effort over.
But, Rylane found themselves right back into the contest again when they caught Mallow on the break and it was Noe Kollar who picked a neat pass out for the available Paul O’Rourke, who was unmarked when he slammed home to make it 3-3 on the hour.
The tie was really very open now and it was no surprise to see another goal go in when Tobin latched on to a ball into space before heading for goal to produce another clinical finish on 65 as well as complete his hat-trick.
He could have had another, minutes later, but a superb block from O’Leary denied him that opportunity.
But, just as you thought, Mallow were done and dusted with a win, up popped Josh Grimes to produce a cracking effort from 25 yards out which torpedoed into the top corner to force the tie into extra time in the dying seconds.
The first period of extra time was just one minute in when Dylan McCarthy found space outside the box and as he looked up to pick his spot, he dinked his effort into the corner to make it 5-4 now on 92 minutes.
Mark Tobin struck twice more before Conor Kelleher fired home from the spot for Rylane to make it finally 7-5 to Mallow in the end.
