Kieran Doyle was recently sentenced to four months in jail for shoplifting.
Gardaí were alerted to suspicious behaviour by three men on a lane off Pope’s Quay and when they approached one of them, they found that he was carrying stolen property.
At Cork District Court, Kieran Doyle, aged 30, of Cork Simon Community was recently sentenced to four months in jail for shoplifting.
He had numerous previous theft convictions.
He pleaded guilty to the theft of €250 worth of clothing from TK Maxx at Cornmarket St.
Sergeant David Fleming said that after lunchtime on September 10, gardaí observed the defendant and two others acting suspiciously at Ferry Lane, off Pope’s Quay. Kieran Doyle had clothing with security tags and he admitted stealing them earlier at TK Maxx.
Eddie Burke, solicitor, said: “Kieran Doyle is originally from South Africa. He came to Cork and fell into homelessness in the city and has been living with the Simon Community.
“He is now clear of drugs but unfortunately he turned to alcohol.
“He spent time in St Helen’s (abstaining from alcohol at the Blarney facility) and he is hoping to get into rehabilitation.”
The four months imposed by Judge David Waters will run concurrently with a similar sentence imposed recently on the same defendant.
