City Council's rental scheme has kept 42 households out of homelessness this year
The Government's RAS currently supports approximately 700 households in Cork city.
So far this year, 42 households in Cork city have avoided homelessness by availing of a Government housing support scheme, Cork City Council has said.
The Rental Accommodation Scheme (RAS) is a long-established housing support programme that provides benefits for both landlords and tenants.
Under the RAS, landlords can enjoy the security of a consistent and reliable rental income, with payments facilitated through Cork City Council.
The scheme also offers longer-term tenancy arrangements, helping to reduce vacancy periods and providing greater certainty in planning and managing rental properties.
For tenants, the scheme provides access to greater housing stability and security.
Longer-term rental arrangements help individuals and families to establish themselves within their communities while continuing to receive the housing supports they need.
Operating through local authorities nationwide since 2005, the RAS currently supports approximately 700 households in Cork city.
Martina Broderick, Cork City Council’s acting director of housing, said the RAS offered a win-win situation for landlords and tenants.
